Pacers Bikeshare creates pay-as-you-go pricing

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Days after an expansion of the Pacers Bikeshare program beyond downtown, the program on Monday announced it will initiate pay-as-you-go pricing starting Wednesday.

Bicycles will be $1 to ride and 15 cents per minute for the duration of the trip with no time limitation. As always, people can use the bikes by visiting a station kiosk or on a mobile device via the BCycle mobile app, which shows real time bike and dock availability.

Pacers Bikeshare said it’s reacting to feedback that its pricing was confusing.

Pay-as-you-go pricing replaces the 24-hour and monthly pass, which provided unlimited 30-minute trips in a 24-hour period.

Pacers Bikeshare said in its announcement that holders of the $10 annual pass will continue to have unlimited 30-minute trips. Annual pass holders who ride longer than 30 minutes could also use pay-as-you-ride pricing, paying 15 cents per minute for any trip over 30 minutes. Previously, annual pass holders paid $2 for any trip over 30 minutes and $4 per 30 minutes for trips over 60 minutes.

Pacers Bikeshare said it also will continue to offer a $10 annual pass for residents who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits or receive services from an EveryBody Rides partner organization.

Last week, Pacers Bikeshare announced it will be adding 275 more bikes and 23 new bikeshare stations in late summer. The new bike share stations will be in various neighborhoods around the city along the Monon Trail, the White River Trail and areas like Garfield Park.

Pacers Bikeshare began in 2014.
