Police: Man admitted to shaking baby, resulting in brain injury

BUNKER HILL, Ind. (WISH) — A man in Miami County is behind bars for allegedly shaking his infant child.

22-year-old Devon Powell has been arrested after shaking his young daughter, according to investigators.

The child was transported from a residence in Bunker Hill to Dukes Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was taken to an intensive care unit due to a brain injury.

Doctors said the injuries were consistent with being violently shaken.

Investigators said Powell admitted to losing his temper and shaking the child to get her to stop crying and that the child’s mother was at work when the incident took place.

The investigation is ongoing. Powell is being held on $75,000 bond.
