Second near drowning in 10 days on Sugar Creek
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) – Crawfordsville police say a man nearly drowned in the high waters of Sugar Creek Tuesday evening.
It happened just below the dam near U.S. 231 around 6:50 p.m.
Firefighters got the call that a 29-year-old man who had been wading and swimming near the dam with a friend and three young children had been swept under water but had resurfaced. He was in pain and vomiting near the shore when crews arrived.
Because the water is so high, responders had to lift him up to 231 using ropes and a basket, before taking him to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Crawfordsville. He is expected to be OK.
It’s the second water rescue near the dam in 10 days.
