‘Gr8 Comeback’: Porter Books & Bread

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Porter Books and Bread is a place near the Fort Harrison State Park where customers can grab a coffee, a book and a bite to eat. The coffee shop has it all under the same roof, but according to owner, Will Worley, it’s the sandwiches made with local ingredients that keep bringing people back.

“We bake all of our own bread, we use a lot of local vendors for our meats and cheeses, so sandwiches are usually our big sellers,” Worley said.

Worley says despite the popular sandwiches, the business lost 85% of their customer base when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Since then they’ve spent time focusing on carry-out, local community events and their brunch service. He says this season has been tough and full of adjustments.

“We are doing limited dine-in and we’re trying to bring some more outdoor seating so you can still enjoy food with us here,” he said.
