2 arrested after Lebanon armed robbery, car chase

LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) – Two people are in custody following a New Year’s Eve Lebanon armed robbery and vehicle pursuit, according to the Lebanon Police Department.

The LPD says that on Dec. 31, just before 1:30 a.m., a 43-year-old man was attempting to withdraw money from the PNC Bank ATM in the 200 block of East Washington Street. The victim told police he was approached by a black male who demanded the money that had just been withdrawn.

At first the victim refused to comply with the suspect’s orders, but then he pointed a gun at the victim. After successfully extracting the money from the victim, the suspect fled the scene.

Following the robbery, the victim called police and officers were on the scene minutes later. The suspect’s vehicle was then located in the area of Park Street and Busby Street, where a short police pursuit ensued after the vehicle refused to pull over for a traffic stop.

The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed in a roundabout at Indianapolis Avenue and Hendrix Drive. Two suspects, 23-year-old Perry Kendrick and 23-year-old Marshawn Phelps, exited the vehicle and took off on foot.

Both were soon apprehended and taken into custody.

In the vehicle, officers found the stolen money and a firearm.

Phelps faces preliminary charges for armed robbery, pointing a firearm, carrying a handgun without a permit and resisting law enforcement.

Kendrick faces preliminary charges for armed robbery, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage crash.
