2 dead, 2 in hospital after shooting in residential area near airport
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two of four people are dead and two others are in the hospital after a shooting in a residential area near Indianapolis International Airport.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call of people shot shortly before 7:40 p.m. in a residential area in the 2000 block of Blue Pine Lane. That’s in the Cameron Meadows subdivision just northeast of U.S. 40 and South Raceway Road and north of the airport.
Two other people remain in the hospital following the shooting.
Police have another person in custody and they are talking with him. He was uninjured.
A sixth person, who was found by police at Eskenazi Hospital, may also be involved. The person’s conditional was described as stable.
There are believed to be multiple shooters inside and outside the home. The person who died was inside the home; the others were found outside the home.
Early Wednesday morning, police said a second person died as a result of the shooting. Police later identified 24-year-old Robert Lee as a suspect in the shooting and is one of the deceased who was found shot in the front yard. Officials believe Lee went to the residence to engage in a drug-related robbery.
The victim who died inside the home was identified by the Marion County coroner as 26-year-old Ricardo Mendez-Carcamo.
The caller to 911 did not give much information, so a special weapons and tactics team was initially called to the scene but was not needed.
Wayne Township Fire Department authorities were also at the scene.
No additional details were immediately available.
