200K expected downtown for ‘monumental weekend’
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis city leaders are gearing up for what they’re calling a “monumental weekend.”
More than 200,000 are expected to be downtown for concerts, car shows and festivals, but officials say they’re ready to handle the crowds.
Among the events, Justin Bieber is holding a concert at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, the Indianapolis Indians are playing and Olympic-related activities are planned at Monument Circle.
Also going on this weekend is the U.S. Mayor’s conference. 24-Hour News 8 spoke with Indy Mayor Joe Hogsett about what he is looking forward to about the conference.
Traffic and hot weather are the two biggest concerns for IMPD Chief Troy Riggs, who said there are no specific threats against the city.
He reminded event attendees to “see something, say something.”
All of these events are expected to bring about $60 million to our city.
