INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man and a woman are dead after an SUV fell from a fourth floor parking garage Wednesday.
First responders with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indianapolis Fire Department were called to the 200 block of East Market Street around 9:50 a.m. That’s just east of Monument Circle and beside City Market.
Rita Reith with IFD confirmed that the man and woman were found dead inside of the vehicle.
Bonnie Judkins was standing just a few feet away from where the SUV landed at the time of the crash.

“I had just came out of the door, the car came flying out and I just heard a big crash and I looked over and I saw the big concrete wall just flying down and about a second later a car just came face forward out and flipped,” said Judkins.
Judkins says a group of people ran out of City Market to try to help the victims inside the car. She says by the time they got the door open, emergency crews arrived on the scene.
“There was a few of the guys that had went over and tried to open up the door to kind of see if anybody was alive or breathing,” said Judkins.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office is in the process of notifying the victims’ family.
“We have a lot more unanswered questions than we do answered at this point,” Reith said.

It is not yet known why this happened. IMPD will conduct the investigation as a death investigation.
IFD said one person inside of City Market was checked for injuries but it was deemed not serious.
The parking garage is currently closed until crews can determine whether the structure is safe or not.
