Columbus investigation leads to two drug arrests
COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – An investigation by police has lead to the drug arrests of two men.
According to the Columbus Police Department, 40-year-old Brian Jones and 51-year-old Steve Whitley have both been taken into custody.
The arrests Wednesday evening were the result of a joint investigation as well as a number of tips reporting suspicious activity over several months.
As part of the investigation, Jones was arrested during a traffic stop on 3rd Street in Columbus. Officers found Jones to be in possession of heroin at the time.
Whitley was also arrested Wednesday evening. Officers were about to carry out a search warrant on a house in the 700 block of Union Street.
Whitley was sitting on the porch at the time and is believed to have thrown a sock containing heroin and cocaine on the ground as officers approached.
While conducting the search on the residence, a number of items used to package narcotics, syringes, spoons, scales and other drug paraphernalia was found by officers.
Whitley and Jones have both been transported to the Bartholomew County Jail.
Jones faces preliminary charges for dealing and possession of heroin.
Whitley faces preliminary charges for dealing heroin and possession of heroin and cocaine.
