Indy murder suspect with possible gang ties arrested in Mexico City

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police on Sunday announced the arrest in Mexico City of an Indianapolis murder suspect with possible ties to a Central American gang.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 30-year-old Narkeen Altamirano was located Friday and taken into custody by Mexican authorities in connection to a warrant in the Aug. 18 shooting death of 31-year-old Pedro Membreno-Tinoco during a birthday party near West 34th Street and North Moller Road.

In August, police asked the public to help find Narkeen Ahmed Altamirano Ubeda, who had an active warrant for murder in Membreno-Tinoco’s death.

Police were initially called to the 5200 block of West 34th Street on Aug. 18 on a report of a disturbance. They did not find Membreno-Tinoco at that residence, but instead found him inside a vehicle near the intersection of 16th Street and Indiana Avenue, as police believe witnesses were trying to take him to a local hospital.

According to court documents, a witness told detectives he was attending a birthday party, where Altamirano and Membreno-Tinoco got into a physical altercation on the back patio of the house. The witness said the fight happened because the victim confronted the suspect about being disrespectful to people at the party.

Altamirano then walked around the house to the patio where Membreno was and began shooting, according to court documents.

Another witness said he saw the suspect point a firearm at Membreno and shoot him once in the chest, then stand over the victim and continue firing additional rounds into him.

A third witness told police the suspect had a tattoo on one of his arms with the numbers “505 SNM,” which he said stands for New Mexico Syndicate, with the 505 representing the zip code in Nicaragua. New Mexico Syndicate is a criminal gang from Central America, according to court documents.

Another witness told police the suspect had a tattoo of a large teardrop under his right eye, the numbers “505” on one of his arms and a triangle on one of his hands.

According to court documents, a records check of Altamirano showed that there was an active warrant out of Houston, Texas, for a drug violation and that Altamirano was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol in 2012 for illegally entering the country near Laredo, Texas.

On Sunday, Altamirano’s extradition to Indianapolis was in process.
