Lafayette police arrest suspect in shooting of 2 brothers
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A teen is dead and his brother injured after an early morning shooting Sunday.
Officers with Lafayette Police Department said they have found an alleged suspect, 20-year-old Alexander Garcia-Johnson, after a daylong hunt.
Garcia-Johnson was found around 6:45 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Cheshire Drive in Lafayette, police said.
Officers responded to a call of several shots fired in the 3100 block of Rubble Way around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Jontae Billups-Brooks with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Franciscan Health Lafayette East, where he was later pronounced dead.
Jontae’s brother, Keyonte Billups-Brooks, was found in a different location and taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital. Keyonte was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.
On Sunday night, the case remained under investigation.
