Grand finale Bicentennial celebration planned for Indiana’s 200th birthday

INDIANA (WISH) – Indiana turns 200 Sunday! There have been more than 1,500 events and projects to celebrate the state’s Bicentennial, but a celebration that was held at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Sunday morning was the grand finale.

The doors opened at 9:00 a.m. and the event  started at 10:00 a.m. Singers, dancers and many speakers were in attendance. The Indianapolis Children’s Choir also performed.

The official title of the event was: Celebrate Indiana, Ignite the Future.

Organizers say the goal is to inspire Hoosiers of all ages, backgrounds and parts of the state to make the next 100 years of Indiana history event better than the last 200.

Vice President-elect Governor Mike Pence was at the celebration and has declared Sunday as “Ignite the Future Day.”

In a statement he said in part, “We encourage young Hoosiers to learn the lessons of this Bicentennial and our proud Hoosier heritage to propel this state forward and ignite the future event.”
