Indiana effort designed to help people secure good jobs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb on Thursday helped launch an initiative he said will improve the state’s workforce development.

Skillful Indiana is an effort that brings investment, training, tools and innovative methods to help people secure good jobs. The Markle Foundation and Microsoft are among the partners in the initiative.

The Republican governor said the initiative will help Hoosiers who want to move their career to the next level. He said Skillful Indiana also will help employers find people with the right skills for the open jobs.

“We’re just out to make sure that we are leaving no person’s opportunity behind when it comes to skilling up and connecting our workforce,” Holcomb said.

State leaders said the effort is relevant because Indiana will need 1 million skilled workers to fill open jobs over the next decade.
