Tippecanoe County Health Department investigating cases of whooping cough

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – There’s a warning coming out of Tippecanoe County.

The health department is investigating an outbreak of the whooping cough.

Officials have confirmed five cases in the week, some of that at a local school.

Whooping cough can cause serious illness in babies, children and adults alike. It’s highly contagious and symptoms might not appear until 10 days after being exposed to the bacteria responsible for causing it.

The disease is characterized by a high pitch sound after rapid cough fit.
