Indy selected to participate in ‘Let’s Move! Outside Initiative’
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Mayor Joe Hogsett is promising a new push to keep kids active.
Mayor Joe Hogsett and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the Interior, David Jayo and President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis Eric Ellsworth, announced Wednesday morning that Indianapolis was selected as one of the 50 cities to participate in the nationwide movement, Let’s Move! Outside initiative, which is led by First Lady Michelle Obama.
“I am grateful that Indianapolis was chosen to partner with the U.S. Department of Interior to invest in our greatest asset — our young people,” said Mayor Hogsett. “Thanks to this program and organizations like the Indianapolis Parks and Recreation Department and the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, we have yet another avenue to connect children with projects that will better their neighborhoods and encourage the next generation to spend time in the wonderful outdoor assets Indianapolis offers.”
The initiative aims to inspire young people to play, learn, serve and work on public lands. It will provide two years of funding for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis to help coordinate efforts, grow resources, facilitate collaboration and increase participation in outdoor programs.
Indianapolis is joining 26 cities who are part of the movement. The remaining cities will be announced throughout this year.
