CenterPoint Foundation donates to skatepark

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — The CenterPoint Energy Foundation has awarded $40,000 to help complete the Riverfront Sunset Skatepark in Evansville. The entire project will connect the Micky’s Kingdom Playground to the new Evansville Water & Sewer Utility Pump Station project.

Skatepark officials say the project fills a void in the city’s downtown master plan, as well as the Evansville Parks Master Plan, for “skill-based recreation to build community and socialization.” The park will replace the existing Lamasco Skatepark that opened in 2001.

“We are proud to support another excellent quality of life initiative in the Evansville Region. The collaborative effort that brought this project to fruition is a model to the community, and we are excited to be part of another way to enhance the vibrancy of this city,” said Amanda Schmitt, president of the CenterPoint Energy Foundation.

The foundation says Sunset Skatepark is more than 65% funded after a $20,000 GoFundMe and other fundraisers, with hopes of breaking ground in the third quarter of this year.
