20K pounds of food to be distributed in Thomas Gregg Neighborhood School community

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — There is help for families struggling during the pandemic. A massive food distribution starts Monday at the John Boner Neighborhood Community Center.

Volunteers will give away 20,000 pounds of dry goods and non-perishable food to families in the Thomas Gregg Neighborhood School community. Food access has been an ongoing challenge in for families in that area.

The food is being donated by local philanthropist Steve Simon, with the help from two organizations supported by his family foundation, Big Green Indianapolis and Conscious Alliance.

More than 900,000 people go hungry in Indiana, that’s according to the Indy Hunger Network. In Marion County, almost 200,000 people need food assistance.

Volunteers will distribute food from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community center.
