Indy celebrates completion of $25M project to rehabilitate ‘affordable housing’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — City leaders took part Tuesday in a ribbon-cutting for the rehabilitated Amber Woods Apartments and Townhomes.

The apartment complex is on John Jay Drive near 38th Street and Mitthoeffer Road on the east side. The rehab involved 28 buildings and 200 apartments. Outdoors, residents found a new roof, landscaping and a playground. Inside, apartments got new kitchens, appliances and floors.

Mayor Joe Hogsett said, “To hear the history, to hear how far this wonderful, affordable housing has come, what it’s come through, what it has overcome, is nothing short of amazing. And so, today we really celebrate in many ways, yet another crown jewel for the city’s far east side.”

In 2018, the City-County Council unanimously approved up to $25 million in economic development revenue notes to finance the rehabilitation project.
