Local podcast ‘Crime Junkie’ climbing the charts nationally
NDIANAPOLIS Ind. (WISH) – A local podcaster has made quite the name for herself, becoming one of the top podcasts online in just one year.
“Rolling Stone” says she’s one of the best at covering true crime. Ashley Flowers says when she got the phone call about her podcast Crime Junkie being named in Rolling Stone as one of the best True Crime podcasts of 2018 she was floored, but with more than 10,000 followers in about a year, her podcast deserves to be at the top.
Flowers is from Indianapolis and along with her childhood friend, Brit Prawat, put out an episode every Monday. She records in her home office on the northeast side of Indianapolis and her brother helps edit the audio.
What has made them so popular is their unique approach to the true crime genre. The podcast focuses on crimes that may not be as well known often from here in the Midwest.
Flowers is also a member of the Board of Directors for Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana and it all started because she wanted to bring awareness to a younger generation.
“I think Crime Stoppers gave me a little bit of perspective,” said Flowers. “I don’t work directly with law enforcement, they don’t give me the inside scoop on cases but it’s given me a deeper appreciation for how these cases get solved. Cime Stoppers whole mission is to get these anonymous tips that are leading to arrests and now we have such a big audience is why we are covering those underreported cases. So, if we get it to the right person to hear the right story to know that people haven’t forgotten about those old cases and these tips are really important, I think we are serving the same mission as when we started.”
Crime Junkie is Top 20 on Spotify podcasts and was named by that company as one of the most listened to podcasts in 2018. At last check, they were also number 20 on iTunes.
