Man beaten and robbed at gunpoint near Eagle Creek
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IMPD is looking for three suspects who broke into a west side apartment and then beat and robbed a man. It happened Monday afternoon at the Spinnaker Court Apartments off 38th Street.
24-Hour News 8 spoke to the victim. He did not want to be identified. He suffered a black eye and busted lip.
On a Monday afternoon, while most people were at work, three suspects targeted a 19-year old who was just relaxing inside his apartment.
“The guts to even do that…it’s crazy. It’s crazy. It’s creepy. You don’t know what people’s mindsets are. So, like, you got to be prayed up and stay ready for whatever,” said Brandon White who lives in the building next door.
But the victim wasn’t ready for what happened next. It started with a knock on the door. Police said when he went to answer, two men and a woman forced their way inside the apartment. One suspect began to choke him while another beat him in the head.
“That’s next door to us, so that’s crazy. That’s pretty close to home,” said White.
Shaton Harris lives just below the victim and added, “I haven’t had any problems with this area so it’s kind of a shock to me.”
Police say the suspects forced the victim into his bedroom as they robbed him of cash and his belongings. When he began to fight back, one of them pointed a gun at him.
“Stop trying to rob somebody else of what they have. Just work for themselves. It ain’t that hard. Just get out here and get a job. Work hard and stop getting a felony and stop doing what you got to do so you ain’t not able to achieve and do great things,” said White.
The victim continued to fight back. Police say he even tried to pull the fire alarm but it didn’t sound. The suspects got away. Now neighbors are rethinking their own safety plan.
“Whatever happens, I’m going to protect myself,” said White. He added, “Somebody try and rob me, we’re going to fight for what I got. That’s how it is.”
Police are asking you to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS with any information that could lead them to the suspects.
