Man charged in wife’s murder agrees to plead guilty

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Tony Degrafreed has agreed to plead guilty to murder and battery in connection to the July 2014 death of his wife, Rebecca.

Marion County deputy prosecutor Jayson McGrath confirmed to 24-Hour News 8 after a court hearing Friday that Degrafreed will plead guilty. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop its pursuit of possibility of life without the possibility of parole for Tony Degrafreed.

Rebecca Degrafreed was found beaten with her throat slit in her bedroom. At the time, Rebecca’s son, Jordan Yarbo, told police he heard banging and that his stepfather emerged from the bedroom and stabbed him. Yarbo survived the attack.

Under the plea agreement, McGrath said prosecutors recommended 60 year sentence. A sentencing date has been set for Oct. 2.

24-Hour news 8 spoke to Rebecca’s brothers, who said they were made aware of the plea agreement and were looking for “closure.”

“We just want some closure so the family can begin to heal,” said Richard Birdsong, who identified himself as the brother of Rebecca Degrafreed.
