Montgomery County borrows snow plows after fire destroys fleet
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — After a fire destroyed its fleet of snow plows, Montgomery County had to scramble to get ready for the first snow of the season.
The fire happened last month at the Montgomery County Highway Department.
County Commissioner Terry Hockersmith said surrounding counties have agreed to plow beyond their boundaries to help out. The cities of Carmel and Fishers, plus Tippacanoe, Fountain and Boone counties have loaned snow plows to Montgomery County.
Hockersmith said the county received more offers than it could accept. Cities as far as Cincinnati offered to loan their snow plows to Montgomery county.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what started the fire. Hockersmith said the county cannot buy replacement plows until it receives insurance money. According to Hockersmith, the county probably will not receive any money until the state fire marshal finishes his investigation.
