New video of good Samaritans saving runner on Monon
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — New surveillance video shows what happened on July 4 when a runner collapsed on the Monon Trail in Carmel.
Three good Samaritans stepped up to help with CPR and the man survived.
The fire department continues to look for one of those people in order to thank him/her.
The other two have been found.
It’s only taken a few days, but the Carmel Fire Department has used social networking to identify Alta Skelton and Jurga Tritenko.
Skelton started chest compressions that Saturday, then Tritenko found them on the trail.
“I saw him on the grass and I saw Ms. Skelton and she already started CPR,” Tritenko said.
As luck would have it, Skelton is a nurse practitioner and Tritenko works in a cardiac hospital.
“I jumped in saying, ‘Hey, I’m a nurse I can help,’” Tritenko said.
The two women and an unidentified man took turns with CPR until the fire department arrived and the man began to breathe.
“I had this immense relief like, ‘Oh, he’s going to be OK,’” Tritenko said.
Tritenko didn’t share that story with anyone and had no idea that the fire department began a social media campaign to find her.
Then she got a text from a coworker.
“She goes, ‘Well, did you do CPR?’ and I’m like, ‘How did you know?’ And she said, ‘There’s a picture on WISH-TV’s website,’” Tritenko said.
She then called Joel Heavner at the Carmel Fire Department.
“It was really nice to see that social networking kick in and give us that extra boost, which we might not have been able to do on our own,” Heavner said.
“He’s like, ‘Oh, hey! Yes, we were looking for you,’ like, ‘Thank you very much,’” Tritenko said.
The fire department credits those three good Samaritans for saving the man’s life.
But Tritenko wants to share the credit with first responders and those at the hospital.
“Saving a life is teamwork you can’t really single out one person,” Tritenko said.
Friday we found out the name of the man who collapsed was Geoffrey Robinson from Noblesville.
He’s at home resting and very thankful for the help he got that day.
The fire department is still looking for the man who assisted.
Jorga said she thinks he’s a doctor but doesn’t know his name.
If you think you can ID him, call the Carmel Fire Department.
