Plymouth couple face murder charges in child’s beating death
PLYMOUTH, Ind. (AP) – Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a Plymouth couple after the woman’s 2-year-old daughter was fatally beaten.
Marshall County Prosecutor E. Nelson Chipman said he filed murder charges Thursday against 24-year-old Krysti Lavanway and 23-year-old Shane Weedling.
The South Bend Tribune reports the child, Serenity Wilson, died Sept. 19 at a Fort Wayne hospital of multiple blunt-force injuries to the head.
Court documents say the fatal beating occurred after Serenity wet her bed. At the time, the girl was living with her mother and Weedling in a room at a Plymouth motel.
Prosecutors say Lavanway was away at the time but knew Weedling was beating the girl and didn’t take her to a hospital until hours later.
It wasn’t clear whether Lavanway or Weedling have attorneys who might comment.
