State transportation leaders share winter travel tips
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – State transportation leaders are sharing some tips on how to keep ahead of the snow when traveling.
INDOT said the first snow events of the season can lead to more crashes and slide-offs as drivers get re-accustomed to driving in winter weather.
The department suggests to remember the motto, “Ice and snow, take it slow.”
Here are some of the tips they are providing drivers:
- Do not drive summer interstate speeds in winter weather;
- Give yourself extra time to reach your destination;
- Keep a safe distance from other vehicles, especially around snow plows
- Drive defensively and be alert for others who are not driving safely
