Purdue vaccination promotion will give cash to 10 students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — Ten Purdue University students have the chance to win nearly $10,000 with a new vaccination program at the school.

Students interested in entering the competition must submit valid proof of vaccination to the university by July 15, according to the university. All undergraduate, graduate and professional degree-seeking students are eligible to enter the program as long as they are enrolled in fall 2021 classes.

The 10 winners will be announced by July 29. Winners will receive $9,992–the equivalent to annual tuition for undergraduate in-state students.

“We have strongly encouraged everyone in our campus community to get vaccinated against COVID-19,” said Dr. Esteban Ramirez, chief medical officer of the Protect Purdue Health Center, in a news release. “The more people who choose to get vaccinated and register their status, the more decisions we can make and the more normal our operations can be in the days, weeks and months ahead. Purdue’s Old Golden Ticket Drawing is another way to encourage students to consider taking that important step to protect themselves, others, and help Purdue return to the normalcy that we all desire.”

Fully vaccinated students, faculty and employees at Purdue University will be able to enjoy more activities on campus, the university said. Those who are not vaccinated will be subject to “regular surveillance” and may be unable to participate in some campus activities.

The university said any individuals who falsify vaccine documentation will face severe disciplinary action, and possible expulsion.
