Wallet, bank card stolen during attack on Monon Trail

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 49-year-old man told police he was attacked and robbed in broad daylight Sunday on the Monon Trail near 38th street.

According to a police report, detectives are looking for one male suspect in his twenties and another in his thirties.

Someone struck the man in the head with with a handgun while he stood on the trail just before 11 a.m., according to the report. The victim told police his wallet and bank card were stolen.

Less than a month ago, just before midnight, a man walking the trail in Broad Ripple said he was knocked unconscious and robbed.

Crime is rare on the trail, according to IMPD.

Trail user Anna Tanner agrees. She said her routine keeps her even safer.

“I mind my own business and try to get to know local people who you see all the time,” Tanner said. “I don’t travel the trail by myself at night. Just basic common sense. Most of the people out here are good people.”

IMPD said people should keep wallets or cell phones hidden on the trail. The department also recommends people don’t wear headphones, so they can hear their surroundings.

24-Hour News 8 tried to contact the robbery victim but was unsuccessful.
