Woman pays it forward, giving wish to slain deputy’s children

WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A woman at a local senior living center is paying it forward for the family of slain Boone County Deputy Jacob Pickett.

Martha Wolfe has been a resident at Wellbrooke of Westfield for eight years. Wellbrooke is a senior living center that offers special wishes to residents each year, and Wolfe was chosen this year.

Wolfe could have done anything she wanted to do and she decided to use her wish to give a shopping spree to Pickett’s two young boys. Pickett died after a gunbattle with a crime suspect March 2 in Lebanon.

“This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this,” Wolfe said. “But, I like to help people. I think I was in the eighth grade when I realized that I was at my happiest when I was working with people and helping them.”

The retired teacher said giving back is in her DNA.

Wolfe spent the day shopping for clothes, toys, books and other items to be given to Pickett’s children.
