Muncie man sentenced to 90 years for 2017 murder

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A Muncie man was sentenced Tuesday to 90 years in prison for the murder and confinement of a man found dead in a field on Valentine’s Day in 2017.

Alonzo Williams, 25, was found guilty by a jury in February and received the sentence in a Delaware County court. He was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Feb. 17, 2017, when police found him on the south side of Indianapolis.

Muncie police said they had responded to a call of shots fired about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 14, 2017, in the 4600 block of East Inlow Springs Road, but later had another call to the same area and located the body of 39-year-old Jeffrey Brown. Police said Brown suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, and his hands bound behind his back. There were 13 shell casings found around Brown’s body and another in his clothing.

Brown had been a suspect in the Feb. 5, 2017, fatal shooting of Joseph Johnson in the 1500 block of South Pershing Drive.

According to witnesses cited in the charging documents, Williams was related to Johnson and was angry at Brown, believing Brown was responsible for Johnson’s death.

A co-defendant in the case, Jeremy T. Holland, also faces charges of murder, criminal confinement and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. His jury trial is set for June 25 in Delaware County.
