‘Gr8 Comeback’: Patties of Jamaica

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Stefan Seung and his family have been catering Caribbean cuisine through their Patties of Jamaica restaurant for generations.

His father, Henry, first opened the restaurants doors 39 years ago.

After decades in business, Stefan says it’s been able to last not just because of the food but because of the atmosphere.

“The customers aren’t just customers,” Stefan said. “I really do feel like there’s a more personal feel to everything. It’s not just a business.”

Stefan now runs Patties of Jamaica with his wife, Jerusha. She talked about how she’s seen the impact of the restaurant on the Indianapolis community.

“It’s really a legacy,” she said. “So many people in the community really rely on this place.”

She says their faithful customers are the reason they’ve been inspired, even in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis.

“They came here as kids; now they’re adults and they’re bringing their children,” Jerusha said. “We really do it for them.”

Patties of Jamaica is currently doing carryout.
