Man with dementia remarries his wife of 54 years to relive the happiest day he can remember

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WCMH) — One Wisconsin man has been living with dementia for years.

It got so bad, he had to move into a hospice facility, but one thing he hasn’t forgotten is how much he loves his wife.

So a special ceremony was held to help him relive his favorite day: his wedding day.

It’s been 54 years since Frank and Sue Borg first tied the knot, and on the second day of the New Year, they did it all over again.

Frank, who’s living with dementia, is in hospice care.

His one wish for the New Year: to relive what he says was the best day of his life.

“That’s how Frank is. He’s always been wonderful,” Sue told WEAU

Thanks to a special program, the Borgs are celebrating their love with family and friends.

During his time at the care facility, not a day goes by without a visit from sue.

“After 54 years of marriage, a man who looks at his wife with so much love and tenderness in his eyes is amazing. Every time she walks in the room, he lights up,” Paula Gibson, with Azura Memory Care told WEAU.

The couple says it’s love that keeps them going through this difficult time.

“Just being able to see him every day; I think I have a strong faith but Frank’s is much stronger than mine,” says Sue.

The wedding was a surprise for Sue.

She only found out about it a few days ago.
