LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) – More than two dozen child predator suspects were arrested in Michigan as part of a nationwide effort to enforce online child sexual exploitation crimes.

In April, Internet Crimes Against Children task forces from around the country, including the Michigan State Police, launched a two-month initiative called “Operation Broken Heart III” in order to arrest child predators and promote Internet safety.

A total of 1,368 arrests were made nationwide during those two months, including 28 arrests in Michigan.

According to a release from Michigan State Police, Operation Broken Heart III focused on offenders who possess, manufacture and distribute child pornography, engage in online enticement of children for sexual purposes or engage in child prostitution.

“The Michigan State Police is committed to keeping our children safe in today’s virtual world,” said Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP. “Along with our law enforcement partners in Michigan and across the country, we will continue enforcement efforts to discourage predators, while also working to educate children and parents about safe Internet use.”
