Woman dead, child hurt after shooting on northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police say a woman is dead and a child was hurt after a shooting on the city’s northwest side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and medics were called via 911 shortly before 1:45 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 4900 block of Clarkson Drive at the Parkside subdivision. That’s near West 52nd Street and Georgetown Road.

Patrolman Michael Hewitt, an IMPD spokesman, said police found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She died later at a hospital.

The victim in the fatal shooting has been identified as 26-year-old Alexis Edwards.

The child was taken to a hospital for injuries, but, Hewitt said, the nature of those injuries have not been confirmed.

Police could not immediately provide additional information on a possible suspect, a motive for the shooting, who reported the incident, or additional information about the woman and child. Hewitt added that some information is being withheld by investigators.
