Boy hit by car, critically injured on southwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A child is in critical condition after being hit by a car on the city’s southwest side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the intersection of Milhouse Road and Milhouse Court — a residential area south of West Thompson Road and between South High School and Mann roads — around 3:30 p.m. Thursday on a report of a child struck.

Medics arrived to find an unresponsive boy in the road. He was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition. According to police, a car was traveling west on Milhouse Road, while the boy, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was riding south across the road.

The driver who hit the boy stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Police said the driver would be taken to the hospital for a blood draw, standard procedure for accidents with serious injury. Police on Thursday did not suspect that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.
