INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Here’s a look at Tuesday’s business headlines.
Toyota
Toyota is investing billions into a new electric battery plant.
The factory will manufacture batteries for gas-electric hybrid and fully electric vehicles and will create 1,750 jobs.
Toyota’s new plant would likely be near one of the company’s U.S. assembly plants.
Toyota has a manufacturing plant in Princeton, which currently has more than 7,000 employees.
Amazon
Amazon is offering lucrative incentives to lure talent amid a supply chain crunch and tight labor market. The average salary for seasonal jobs starts at $18 per hour along with sign-on bonuses up to $3,000.
Amazon wants to hire 150,000 workers for the holidays but competition is fierce.
Walmart, Target and other retailers are scrambling to hire as well.
Chick-fil-A
A lawsuit says Chick-fil-A “secretly” marked-up food prices for delivery orders.
Chick-fil-A is accused of marking up food prices for delivery orders by 25-30%.
Chick-fil-A hasn’t commented on the lawsuit.
Lab meat
The AG department just made its first investment into lab-created meat.
The USDA awarded $10 million to Tufts University to establish the National Institute for Cellular Agriculture.
The investment will help to support critical research necessary to rapidly scale cell-based meat production as a major obstacle in getting the novel meat to market is knocking down its price.
