Tuesday’s business headlines

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Here’s a look at Tuesday’s business headlines.

Toyota

Toyota is investing billions into a new electric battery plant.

The factory will manufacture batteries for gas-electric hybrid and fully electric vehicles and will create 1,750 jobs.

Toyota’s new plant would likely be near one of the company’s U.S. assembly plants.

Toyota has a manufacturing plant in Princeton, which currently has more than 7,000 employees.

Amazon

Amazon is offering lucrative incentives to lure talent amid a supply chain crunch and tight labor market. The average salary for seasonal jobs starts at $18 per hour along with sign-on bonuses up to $3,000.

Amazon wants to hire 150,000 workers for the holidays but competition is fierce.

Walmart, Target and other retailers are scrambling to hire as well.

Chick-fil-A

A lawsuit says Chick-fil-A “secretly” marked-up food prices for delivery orders.

Chick-fil-A is accused of marking up food prices for delivery orders by 25-30%.

Chick-fil-A hasn’t commented on the lawsuit.

Lab meat

The AG department just made its first investment into lab-created meat.

The USDA awarded $10 million to Tufts University to establish the National Institute for Cellular Agriculture.

The investment will help to support critical research necessary to rapidly scale cell-based meat production as a major obstacle in getting the novel meat to market is knocking down its price.
