16-year-old shot, pulled from burning car dies; teen in custody

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — A teen pulled from a burning car after being shot early Sunday morning has died, and another teen faces charges, police said Monday afternoon.

Beech Grove police said the 16-year-old boy was pulled out of a burning car found in a ditch near Emerson and Interstate 465 around 3 a.m. Sunday. 

The male victim was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition but later died of his injuries, police said. 

Two other people, 16 and 18 years old, were in the car and were also taken to the hospital. Those teens said the vehicle they were riding in was shot at several times before it ended up in the ditch. 

Police on Monday said a 16-year-old boy faced charges in connection to the incident. They continue to seek a second suspect.

No information on the identities of the victim or the suspect was immediately available.
