18-year-old arrested in fatal road rage shooting in Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — An 18-year-old Anderson man was arrested early Monday morning in connection with a Sunday road rage homicide on the north side of Anderson, police said Monday.

On Sunday just before 2:45 a.m., police went to the intersection of Broadway Street and Webster Street on reports of a person shot. Officers found Raymond Waymire Jr., 46, with a gunshot wound to the chest, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to witnesses, Waymire was driving his motorcycle near Webster Street when he nearly collided with a dark-colored sedan.

Waymire followed the car until it stopped at the intersection of Broadway and Webster. Witnesses say Waymire got off his motorcycle and approached the vehicle.

According to the occupants of the car, Waymire reached into the car and punched Zachary Hileman, who was in the backseat.

Witnesses say Hileman then shot Waymire, and he collapsed on the road.

Hileman was taken into custody about 12:30 a.m. Monday and was charged with murder in the death of Waymire. Hileman was in the Madison County Jail on Monday morning.

Online court records do not yet list an initial appearance date for Hileman.
