50 cats found abandoned at house in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — An estimated 50 cats, some deceased, were founded abandoned at a residence in Lawrence on Friday, police said.

The felines were discovered around 11 a.m. at a home in the 12000 block of Meadow Lane, which is in the Oaklandon neighborhood.

Officers with Lawrence Police Department found cats inside of the residence and in a camper on the property. Police say some of the cats were found dead, and others were alive in varying degrees of health.

Lawrence Animal Control and Indianapolis Animal Care and Control are working to rescue the surviving cats.

Authorities are investigating the incident and looking for the individual responsible. According to initial investigation, the previous residents moved out of the home two weeks ago.
