IMPD warns of burglaries, break-ins ahead of Christmas

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It’s almost time for families to open Christmas gifts. Thieves hope you show off those new items so they know what to try and steal.

IMPD warns not to set those opened tech and toy boxes out by your dumpster.

“Yeah, we’ve definitely seen burglaries like this before,” said Craig Wagoner, public information officer for IMPD.  “We want our community to take precautions in protecting themselves by breaking down those boxes, throwing away those items discretely so thieves can’t see what’s in their house this holiday season.”

According to the FBI, home break-ins happen during the summertime when people are on vacation, but the month of December is a close second.

Wagoner said, “Put those opened gift boxes in trash bags or wait to throw them away. You can take them to get recycled instead of dumping them by your trash can.”
