Police searching for man after attempted abduction of 4-year-old

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Greenwood police are investigating after a woman says a man attempted to abduct her 4-year-old son Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the 2300 block of Harness Way around 8:15 a.m.

A woman told police she was preparing her six kids for school when her 4-year-old son ran across the yard. Her 9-year-old daughter followed the boy and both returned saying a man had tried to coax the 4-year-old into a pickup truck, according to Greenwood police.

The man reportedly grabbed the boy’s hand and started to walk him back to the truck while promising candy. The girl grabbed her brother’s arm and both ran back home.

“It’s really upsetting; it makes me even more cautious because I was thinking about letting her come out and play with the other kids and now definitely not,” neighbor Cassandra Clark said about her own daughter.

The man is described as white with a medium build, full beard, a buzz haircut and wearing sunglasses. He was driving a white mid-sized pickup truck with mud on the side. He was last seen leaving on Combs Road.

Greenwood police have extra patrols planned in the neighborhood as the investigation continues.

“It makes me sick to my stomach that somebody would do something like that,” Clark added. “It’s just disgusting and to say he has candy is just the classic trick.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 317-882-9191 extension 195.
