1 dead, 1 critical in Kroger lot shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Two people have been shot in the West State Plaza parking lot, one fatally, another critically.

Police and medics were called around 5:53 p.m. to the lot of the Kroger in West State Plaza near St. Marys Avenue.

When they arrived they found one man in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but was downgraded to critical at the hospital.

Police were later informed that a second shooting victim was driven to a nearby hospital. When officers arrived, the hospital confirmed the victim was associated with the shooting at West State Plaza and was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe an altercation took place at the lot before the shooting occurred.

Police had an area from the gas station to the parking lot cordoned off with crime scene tape. At least four vehicles appeared to be inside the tape.

The incident is under investigation.
