Indy airport beefs up security after terror attacks abroad
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Airports across the world are beefing up security after the bombings in Turkey.
That includes Indianapolis International Airport.
“It’s in the back of my mind,” said Ben Burns, speaking of the potential for a terror attack at the airport.
His concern comes after 43 people were killed last week in a series of attacks at Istanbul’s airport.
“I always do think about it especially before traveling, but I’m not going to live in fear,” said Alli Padrick, who was traveling to Denver.
In response to the attacks in Istanbul, IND officials added more security to areas before TSA checkpoints. Officials say they’re strictly enforcing no parking rules in departure areas. They’re also adding security officers.
“I feel pretty confident. I trust everybody doing their jobs,” Mitch Miller said while checking into his flight.
But some also said they’re taking their security into their own hands.
“I just keep aware of my surroundings and stay cautious and not going to let anything stop me from getting to where I need to be,” said Tanja Ingram, who was traveling to Oakland, California.
“The United States is very well protected especially after 9/11, so I have more faith and trust in our airports than before,” Kobi Allston said shortly before boarding her flight.
Airport officials also said IND is one of just a few airports in the country that was built after 9/11. They say it was built with security in mind.
