INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — Indy PopCon is postponing its summer convention in Indianapolis due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Scheduled for July 2020, organizers say the decision is an effort to protect the health and safety of fans, vendors, and other guests.

Organizers say they hope to reschedule the in-person event in late 2020.

“We’re heartbroken to have to make this decision, but our fans’ health is of the utmost importance to us,” said Carl Doninger, co-owner of Indy PopCon. “This event is what we work toward all year, to have our family of geeks and gamers come together to celebrate their fandoms. But right now, the only way to do that safely is by being apart.”

The 2020 event planned to introduce the first PopCon International Film Festival. Indy PopCon says the event will now be held online. Anyone with pre-purchased tickets will have access to the full lineup of feature and short films beginning July 9.

“We’ve seen streaming platforms step up as movie theaters have closed across the country, and we’re excited that we can make the same pivot to digital content for our first film festival,” said Kris Keys, co-owner of Indy PopCon. “Filmmakers from 10 countries have submitted their work, and we look forward to sharing them with the Indy PopCon family in July.”

Indy PopCon says fans can find additional information and updates on its website and social media channels.
