College Avenue bridge closes Monday, Meridian Street reopens

INDIANAPOLIS Ind. (WISH) – There’s good news and bad news for downtown commuters.

One construction project is finished on Meridian Street. Another is set to begin and will close the College Avenue bridge over Fall Creek.

The DigIndy project closed Meridian Street from Fall Creek Parkway to 30th Street. Commuters have been dealing with detours around that project for months. It reopens to normal traffic Monday.

Citizens Energy agreed to speed up work surrounding the DigIndy tunnel project. It wasn’t set to open until the end of October.

Also on Monday, the College Avenue bridge will close for 60 days to fix the deck and repair the sidewalks. The city says the bridge was first built in 1905.

Dependent on weather the bridge is expected to reopen in about eight weeks on November 17.

If you are driving here are some possible alternative routes:

  • If you’re driving north on College Avenue, you can go east or west at 25th Street to Delaware Street, Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue or Keystone Avenue
  • If you’re heading south on College Avenue, you can take 30th Street to Capital Street or through Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue or on Keystone Avenue
