Family raises money to bury pedestrian hit, killed in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A Lawrence family is trying to give a proper burial to a man who died Tuesday while trying to cross the street. 

Aaron Cofer was trying to cross the street near Post Road and Pendleton Pike when he was fatally struck. 

The driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police in the investigation. It is unclear if the driver will face charges. 

Since the the deadly accident, Cofer’s family is struggling to put together funds to give him a proper burial. Cofer was described as a 28-year-old who loved his family.

Since 2013, there have been 10 deadly crashes along Pendleton Pike. In 2017, Indiana State Police set up speed traps along the stretch to slow the drivers down. It remains unclear if state police area planning another speed zone.
