Last day for Hoosiers to register to vote ahead of midterm elections

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Oct. 9 is the last day Hoosiers can register to vote before the Nov. 6 elections. No matter which party you stand with or issue you want changed, If you don’t register you a can’t vote come November. Get your info in Tuesday by the end of business or else your voice will not be heard in the midterm elections. 

About 4.5 million Hoosiers are registered to vote. This year’s election, in addition to local races, will decide Indiana’s secretary of state, auditor of state, and treasurer of state. Also all of Indiana’s U.S. representatives as well as a race making a lot of news this election season: Indiana’s U.S. Senate seat. It’s a race between incumbent Democrat Joe Donnelly, Republican Mike Braun and Libertarian Lucy Brenton. 

Looking at the national picture, 35 of the 100 senate seats are up for election, including two special elections. Heading into November, the Republican party holds a 51-seat majority in the chamber. Democrats hold 47 seats, and the remaining two are held by independents who caucus with the Democratic Party. 

As a reminder to vote, one must be 18 years old as of Nov. 6, a U.S. Citizen, not currently in prison or convicted of a crime and live in the precinct where you vote for at least 30 days prior to the election.

Early voting begins Wednesday, Oct. 10,  2018.
