Need a job? Companies are hiring now, during the coronavirus pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)- Now hiring! A global pandemic has crippled economies, but jobs are available in central Indiana.

Companies and businesses across the region have open positions, and they want to hire people right now.

Good Morning Mama’s restaurant in Indianapolis is preparing to open May 22.

“Well, the staff’s been out of work,” said Carole Leuer, the owner of Good Morning Mama’s & Mama Corolla’s.

Thursday, Nws 8 saw workers precisely measuring 6-feet of space between their outdoor seating. Carole Leuer, who owns the place, tells me they’re hiring immediately.

“Well, we’re hiring because when we went to call people back, we found some of them didn’t want to come back. They’re making good money on unemployment,” Leuer said.

She says she’s looking for servers and experienced cooks.

“Most of our cooks are making $15, $16, $17 an hour. We used to hire cooks in at $13 an hour and see what they can do. Right now, if we can get a good cook in here, that has expereince, we’ll pay him what he’s worth,” Leuer said.

Hiring signs could be seen Thursday at various businesses in Indianapolis.

Ray’s Trash Service is one business that has several open positions.

“We’re always looking for drivers, laborers, mechanics, so if people like that are out there or if they desire to become a driver, we have a program where we can help you obtain your CDL,” said Calvin Davidson, general manager of Ray’s Trash Service.

Calvin Davidson says it’s honest work.

“Really, working here is pretty easy. If you have good worth ethic, you show up for work, you’re willing to do some physical activity, it’s not back-breaking work like it used to be,” Davidson explained.

Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development is hosting a virtual career fair for west central Indiana on Monday beginning at 10 a.m.
