‘Willie the Whale’ restored by Indianapolis artist

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A fixture of the original Indianapolis Zoo has been restored by an Indianapolis artist.

Justin Olson took on the project of restoring “Willie the Whale” after the city of Kokomo purchased the iconic fiberglass creature.

Willie is set to make his debut in downtown Kokomo later this month.

The 26-foot whale was made in the early 1960s by a former Ball State University professor and spent 15 years at the original zoo.

In 2016, the whale was moved to Newfields, formerly known as the Indianapolis Museum of Art, to be part of a mini-golf course.
