Mailman honored for 50 years with Postal Service

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A mailman on Friday celebrated 50 years on the job.

A party honored Warren Jackson on Friday at the Mapleton post office branch, 2650 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St., which is near downtown and next to the Eskenazi Health Center Blackburn.

Jackson started delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service on Oct. 7, 1968. He has served a single ZIP code, 46208, for most of his career.

He said, “I’ve enjoyed my job, I’ve enjoyed it from Day 1 and I still enjoy it. But, now, to see this, out of all the work, the best part is all the respect I’ve gotten. I never realized it was this much until my birthday. They did something for me on my birthday for me. You know, they didn’t have to. I didn’t think I was all that, you know what I mean.”

His supervisor said Jackson is part of elite group of federal employees who have served five decades.

Jackson was awarded a pin for his service and a $250 check.
