Martinsville police chief on paid administrative leave amid investigation

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Martinsville Police Chief Matt Long is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, Martinsville Mayor Shannon Kohl confirmed Friday afternoon.

Former Martinsville Police Chief Roger Wiltermood is serving as interim chief, the office said.

Kohl’s office provided the following statement about Long’s leave:

“The Mayor takes these matters seriously, and her Administration will cooperate fully with any investigation. In fact, the City Attorney has already taken proactive steps with the Clerk-Treasurer’s office to determine how best to proceed moving forward. Chief Long has been placed on paid administrative leave until further notice so that the investigation may unfold without distraction to the brave men and women who protect and serve this city each and every day. No further comments will be made about this matter.”

News 8 reached out to the Martinsville Police Department but on Friday afternoon had not heard back.
